Hobbies

Having lived in various countries like Singapore and Japan, I have grown up having taken different secondary language courses while at school, which I continued even on into college. The main two languages I studied were Chinese (Mandarin) and Japanese respectively. I am currently continuing to study Japanese on my own through means like Anki decks for vocabulary and through immersing myself through things like Japanese songs, shows, and games. I have played videogames basically all my life. From a very young age when my parents gave my brother and I a Gameboy Advanced and Playstation 2, the experience of playing a variety of different genres of games has always excited me. Gaming has also been a big factor in some of the best friendships I have made throughout school and college, in addition to a lot of the online communities I have been a part of. I have played a large variety of games throughout my life, from things like GTA, Gran Turisimo, NBA 2k, Jak and Daxter, to currently playing more multiplayer online games like League of Legends, and even mobile games like Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail. Games have always been my way of building friendships and destressing after tough days of school or work.

Reading is another hobby I've had since I was very young. When it comes to reading though, I would say I have been mostly attached to a few genres, mainly fantasy, sci-fi, mystery, and dystopian fiction. Growing up, I loved reading series like Magic Treehouse, The Hardy Boys, Percy Jackson, The Maze Runner, and the Divergent series.Currently, I would say I get more interested in reading books once I hear about movies or shows being made based off of them. Books like this have been ones like The Martian, and more recently Shogun. I also do read a lot of Japanese Manga as well, usually when I hear they are being adapted into Anime soon. My goal is to be able to become proficient enough in Japanese to be able to read short novels and Manga in Japanese without needing official or fan translations.
